EKWEREMADU CRIES OUT OVER ALLEGED BLACKMAIL

Ekweremadu Cries Out Over Alleged Blackmail

Senator Ike Ekweremadu has said that he cannot be intimidated by politicians who seek to force him out of office by falsely indicting him.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu says he is being blackmailed falsely by politicians seeking to unseat him.
Ekweremadu made this known in a statement released by his media office on Thursday, October 1.
In the statement, the deputy Senate president alleged that some politicians were planning to  blackmail him by publishing false and defamatory information against his office.

The Senator’s statement comes following charges of false declaration of assets instituted against Senator Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
The statement noted that Saraki and Ekweremadu have come under severe scrutiny since their emergence as Senate President and deputy Senate president, respectively.
It alleged that they have come under pressure to vacate their offices because they emerged leaders of the upper chamber against the wishes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Ekweremadu, those reportedly after him are currently scrutinising the accounts of the Senate and accounts of committees in which he had served with the aim of nailing him.
However, he has vowed to resist all forms of intimidation and remain focused to the end.
He said: “The Office of the Deputy President of the Senate wishes to bring to the knowledge of the public some clandestine efforts by desperate political elements to publish false and defamatory information against the office and person of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
“These elements are currently making desperate efforts, including scavenging through Senate accounts and committees he served in, with the sole aim of misrepresenting information, maligning, and running him out of office by hook or crook or force him to resign from office as the Deputy President of the Senate.
“The Deputy President of the Senate appreciates the principled stance of most media houses not to be used in this business of blackmail, falsehood, and cheap propaganda.”
Ekweremadu said that Nigerians need to be informed that the people behind the supposed unscrupulous push are the same people who strongly moved for bipartisan leadership in the legislature as rightly embedded in the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the presidential system of government, and our history is in the public domain.
He said: “The Deputy President of the Senate is ever committed to contributing his quota towards ensuring that the Federal Government of Nigeria provides good governance that caters to the wellbeing of the good people of Nigeria, for it remains the common and primary calling of all of those in government, irrespective of party affiliation.
He urged Nigerians to be on the lookout for misinformation and disregard every propaganda against his office.
He also reassured the Nigerian people that just like the fictitious alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Rules, the envisaged blackmail will also fail.
“I remain committed to the institution of the National Assembly and independence of the legislature, hence I will not allow myself to be intimidated or stampeded out of office,” he stressed.
It is recalled that
There were speculation that Saraki was losing the grasp of his supporters and was likely to lose his position in the Senate on account of the alleged false assets declaration suit he is facing at the Code of Conduct of Tribunal (CCT).
However, the vote of confidence passed by 83 senators has quelled every rumor,
Meanwhile, the Senate on Wednesday, September 30, urged the federal government to re-strategise for economic growth in the country.
The call was included in a motion raised by Bala Na’Allah,
